Tôi về đây cố tìm chốn cũ
Từng dấu thân quen vắng cả rồi
Khi ký ức còn đây thừa đủ
Để ngậm ngùi trong ánh chiều rơi
Người Saigon cũ giờ đâu nhỉ
Chiều ngập hoàng hôn, sương xám rơi
Phương tây thành phố mờ tăm nhạn
Lặng lẽ bên đông bóng một người
Tôi đứng giữa trời khan tiếng gọi
Bao người xưa cũ ở nơi đâu
Sao nghe lạc lõng trong lòng phố
Vọng lại riêng tôi những giọt sầu
Saigon thay đổi ngoài mong ước
Đường sá ngổn ngang, phố xô bồ
Đó đây, hẻm hóc… đầy tên lạ
Lạc cả đường về… đến ngẩn ngơ
Tôi cúi đếm bước chân nặng trĩu
Nghe nỗi buồn từng giọt rưng rưng
“Saigon đẹp lắm!” Nay lạc điệu
“Ôi Saigon!” Tiếng gọi bâng khuâng!
Nay tất cả chỉ còn kỷ niệm
Saigon xưa mất dấu chim bay
Tự do, nhân bản cùng thanh lịch
Biến mất lâu rồi ai có hay
Muốn nói giã từ sao nghẹn đắng
Quay quắt tìm dấu vết thời qua
Đâu đâu cũng thấy toàn hoa nắng
Những vàng son cũ kiếm đâu ra
Lost In The Familiar Places
I returned trying to find the old place
Every trace of familiarity is gone
While the memories are plenty enough
Only to mourn in the falling afternoon light
Where are the old Saigonese now?
Afternoon flooded with sunset, gray mist falls
Westward of the city, fading shadows of swallows.
Silently in the East, only a forlorn human figure.
Standing in the middle of nowhere calling
Where are all of my old friends
Feeling lost in the heart of the city,
My soul was steeped in melancholy.
Saigon has changed beyond expectation
The streets are messy, the city is crammed.
Here and there, alleys full of unfamiliar names.
Losing my way back, I wander in a daze.
I bow, counting each heavy step,
Hearing the tearful of sadness about to fall.
“Saigon is so beautiful!” Now lost its melody,
“Oh, Saigon!” A mournful, nostalgic call!
Oh, it’s all just memories.
The old Saigon has disappeared as birds fly away.
Freedom, humanism, and elegance,
Has gone away for a long time, and nobody knows!
How bitter it is to say goodbye,
Painfully seeking traces of the past,
Only see glistening sunshine everywhere.
Golden pasts are nowhere to be found.
