\nA Croatian sentence I have just learned
\nWhen arrived to the Belgrade airport
\nI came here for an important mission
\nNot to sightsee or enjoy
\nBut I felt some kind of happiness
\nWhen traveling through areas where I do not know
\nThe climate here did not have a clear four seasons
\nSunshine everywhere
\nAbove 25 degrees Celsius every day
\nA few yellow leaves scattered around
\nAlthough it\u2019s in the middle of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere
\nI walk toward the person who held the welcome sign
\nSmiling and offering him a handshake
\nIntroduced himself
\nPEN delegates of the Vietnamese Abroad PEN
\nFrom the United States of America<\/p>\n
\nAnd we were waiting a little longer for another delegates to come<\/p>\n
\nIn the airport lobby
\nVery crowded with people coming and go
\nUntil the long tiresome journey had caught up with me
\nAll Delegates schedule had arrived
\nThe bus leaving the airport
\nFilled with all the greetings
\nYou said:
\nMire se vini ju gjithe (**)
\n“Delegates came from Korea
\nAnd Delegate came from far away Africa
\nWelcome Mr. Ph. D from far far away New Zealand ”
\n(with tiresome eyes)
\nMore than thirty-hour flight from the South Pole to Belgrade
\nIt\u2019s quite a long distance
\nAll people came here with the same purpose
\nTherefore, it\u2019s easy to understand each other
\nAnd to be friendly so quick
\nYou\u2019re courteous though very young age
\nSpeaking fluent English
\n(Compulsory secondary language in this country)<\/p>\n
\nVery long day with meetings and activities
\nYou and many young Serbian with English fluency
\nHelp with caring
\nGood manners and nice
\nWhen given the opportunity, I wandered around the close by streets
\nA city of two million people
\nNarrow streets with busy life
\nBusy side walks with pedestrians
\nOverwhelming traffic with cars, buses, and trains
\nDuring the eight days
\nI didn\u2019t see any traffic accident
\nNeither argue, rage nor fighting
\nVery rarely seeing policeman in the street
\nOnce he appeared, he looked very gentle and modest<\/p>\n
\nEverywhere that life span calm
\nYour country has been under Communist
\nBecame total independent in 1992
\nMy heart filled with sorrow
\nFeel ashamed for our race, ethnicity
\nReunification
\nNo more war
\nFor more than 36 years
\nThe life of the people still spinning like a cyclone
\nThe country still underdeveloped and poverty
\nHumanity increasingly atrophy
\nJealousy, deception multiple so quick
\nYou should be very proud of your country
\nWhile I was ashamed of mine
\nI tip my head for your country and government
