CELEBRATING A LATE T\u1ebeT IN MINNEAPOLIS<\/strong><\/p>\n

About a week after T\u1ebft, when the lingering echo of a spring in a foreign land – ordinary like the springs that had already passed – still left a faint after-fragrance in a sad memory, my family and her three older sisters boarded a ship for a one-week cruise\u2026 like the year before. And during those very days, I received a gentle encouragement from her, \u201cFly to Minneapolis and celebrate a late T\u1ebft at the invitation of the young couple, Cao T\u00e2n and Tr\u00e2m Anh.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thus, a week of lonely worries dissolved, giving way to the excitement of a special trip which, as Cao T\u00e2n & Tr\u00e2m Anh had described previously, their spring celebration would be extraordinarily special.<\/p>\n

And that was it, I came to that house for the second time.<\/p>\n

The previous time, the two of us had stayed longer, during a very beautiful autumn of 2025 \u2014an autumn with music, with a warm artistic gathering, and trips far away to Wisconsin to visit The House On The Rock, where reality and dream seemed to intersect in each fantastical space. They had paid for all the expenses on that trip even though we urged to share.<\/p>\n

This time, everything was the same. That is to say, Cao T\u00e2n picked me up right at the airport, took me home, personally cooked a special late lunch, then showed me the same bedroom where we had stayed for a whole week the previous time.<\/p>\n

The way they hosted was not noisy, not formal, but sincere to the point that one felt as if returning to one\u2019s own home. Those short yet complete days of stay in that house once again confirmed what I had felt before – hospitality does not lie in display, but in the heart.<\/p>\n

This spring celebration was truly special.<\/p>\n

About fifty to sixty guests, a number large enough to create a lively atmosphere, yet still close enough that every handshake, every smile could be remembered. I met again many singers, musicians, and friends from before, and at the same time became acquainted with many new faces. Among them, the presence of Professor Stephen B. Young brought another dimension to the gathering, one more memorable.<\/p>\n

Professor Stephen B. Young had become a very close friend of the host. He had been invited many times to such full gatherings. He is someone who deeply understands Vietnam and has been attached to the Vietnamese refugee community for many years. The host gave him a valuable amount of time to share about the current situation in Vietnam. His remarks were not without controversy, but his conclusion was a ray of light, \u201cThe situation in Vietnam may have brighter changes with new personnel shifts.\u201d A hope, though fragile, is still something many people wish to keep in their hearts.
\nAfter the conversation came a completely different space, It\u2019s very lively, radiant, and very\u2026 Spring.<\/p>\n

The tables were laid out with all kinds of beer and alcohol, as abundant as the stories of the attendees. The highlight of the evening was a sushi-making performance from a large tuna; a presentation both artistic and exciting, performed by a young man named Kh\u1ea3i. The fresh slices of fish were cut skillfully, more like a performance than ordinary kitchen work.<\/p>\n

Then the night gradually deepened.<\/p>\n

Music began to rise. Musicians brought forth sounds that were very lyrical, very warm. Spring songs, love songs, familiar voices\u2026 all blended into an unbroken stream of emotion. The party started at six in the evening and lasted until past three in the morning; the house remained lit, filled with voices and laughter. And the last guests, according to the host, were still the musician couple Nguy\u00ean Ch\u00e2u and his wife L\u00fd. They left when the night was nearly over, leaving behind a space cluttered with dishes, bottles, glasses\u2026 and it was Tr\u00e2m Anh alone who cleaned up until near dawn.<\/p>\n

At this gathering, as seemingly at all gatherings, T\u00e2n, the man of the kitchen, stood behind all the delicious dishes, carefully tending every detail without display. Tr\u00e2m Anh remained the soul of the space, skillfully arranging everything – from tables, lighting, decorations, to a coherent and graceful artistic program. And then, when everything ended, she herself quietly stayed up late to clean the remnants of a joyful night.<\/p>\n

Tr\u00e2m Anh always has a smile on her lips, always has words that warm the heart, always appears youthful, attentively caring for guests. This couple has three grown children, yet they look as if newly married, always treating each other with \u201cmutual respect as if newly acquainted\u201d; at times I even caught a \u201cchildlike\u201d quality in her, a gentleness in him like a pair of lovers. And yet, they are not young at all. Cao T\u00e2n has served as an ex-President of the Vietnamese Community in Minnesota for several terms and is now an important \u201cfigure\u201d in the Vietnamese American community at the federal level. With so many responsibilities, without Tr\u00e2m Anh\u2019s strong support, how could he both carry the ivory tusk and polish it well? Fortunately, he has retired, staying home to take care of the garden and ornamental plants, even maintaining a special koi pond, bustling through many winters without any trouble. He takes care of their spacious house, which even includes a full-size basketball court for their sons when they were in high school. Tr\u00e2m Anh still works, because she is still\u2026 very young \ud83d\ude1c; she says she is grateful to COVID-19 for giving her the opportunity to work from home. In addition, they live quite comfortably and have several rental properties in the area.<\/p>\n

I got to know this couple through Facebook. Besides sharing the same hometown of Qu\u1ea3ng Ng\u00e3i, we also connect through a mutual passion for the arts and community services. Tr\u00e2m Anh sings and plays piano very well; I\u2019ve heard that they often host musical gatherings at their home after many years of participating in the Vietnamese community. They also have artistic connections with many local singers and musicians.<\/p>\n

Bottom line, the couple Cao T\u00e2n & Tr\u00e2m Anh have many qualities that stand out beyond others. I say this very sincerely. I admire them, from their married life to the way they raise their children. I do not say these things to flatter them because they treated me very specially; surely their long-time friends, both American and Vietnamese, would agree as well.<\/p>\n

I left Minneapolis carrying more than what I had brought.<\/p>\n

Not only memories of a party, or a trip. But an admiration for a young family, where love and respect are present in every small gesture. They treat each other with human kindness, and their friends with an open heart.<\/p>\n

Their three sons are very polite, talented, fluent in Vietnamese; they are like branches growing from a strong root. The eldest is about to graduate from university and is said to pursue a career in medicine. A future is opening not only for him, but as a continuing hope for an entire generation.<\/p>\n

The trip ended.<\/p>\n

But there are journeys that do not stop where we leave them, but continue to live within us,
