To calm the mind \u2014 how difficult to find
\nTo rest the heart takes more than will and mind
\nThough life is but a fleeting, borrowed stay

The restless wind sweeps through these autumn trees
\nThe falling leaves rain gold upon the breeze
\nA sudden tremor echoes in my chest
\nI feel my fate \u2014 a ripened fall at best<\/p>\n

This world of dust holds no clear guarantee
\nSooner or later \u2014 home to all we\u2019ll be
\nWe come, we go \u2014 through six realms we must roam (*)
\nAnd time moves on, never pausing its home<\/p>\n

A single leaf falls lightly on my sleeve
\nAs if the branch says, \u201cGather, then we leave.\u201d
\nAll bitterness and trials have passed away
\nNow is the time to smile at fate\u2019s display<\/p>\n

This mortal frame (**) must age and fade in turn.
\nFor joy and grief are lessons we must learn
\nGrant me a smile I may forever keep
\nTo guide my steps \u2014 toward wisdom, vast and deep.<\/p>\n
