Từ ra đi, luôn thương nhớ quê nhà
Đời buồn tênh, bao kỷ niệm êm ái, sống mãi trong hồn tôi mà đường về xa khuất
Sài Gòn ơi! Bao kỷ niệm dấu yêu
Còn trong tôi như lá đổ muôn chiều
Ngày lìa quê
Có ai ngờ dâu bể
cuốn hút tôi trầm luân
khó quay về chốn xưa
Trong giấc mơ
quay về thuở ấu thơ
Trên bến sông, tiếng hò ai lả lơi
Bên mái tranh, tiếng cười nghe rất vui
Hoàng hôn dần xuống, lũ chim gọi nhau
Trong giấc mơ
tôi cùng em bước vui
Bên khóm hoa, em hiền như bé thơ
Tay nắm tay môi cười xinh rất xinh
Trời chiều lộng gió, lá me ngập đường
Ngày nao về, trên quê hương bình yên
Bắc với Nam con Rồng cùng cháu Tiên

O Vietnam, for several years we’d been apart.
Since leaving, my soul was filled with longings for thee.
Life’s sad with so many happy memories
that’ll live forever in my heart.
but the road home,
the road home’s still so far away and dark.
O Saigon, so many cherished memories.
falling from all directions inside me, like the autumn leaves.
The day I left,
who would have thought that the tumultuous current of Life
would pull me into its relentless flow,
making it so difficult to return to the homeland of long ago.
In a dream,
I returned to the time when I was a young lad.
By the shore, I listened to folk singing on the river.
The straw-thatched hut was filled with sounds of joyous laughter.
As sunset falls, the birds call out to each other.
In a dream, you and me were taking a stroll.
By the flowers, you looked so gentle like a child.
Hands holding hands, you gave me a darling smile.
The evening was windy, the tamarind leaves littered the street.
Some day I’ll return when my homeland is at peace.
North and South, we’re all descendants of the Mountain Goddess and Dragon King.
We’ll work together to build a glorious Vietnam.
A Vietnam that shines like the bright jewel of the Eastern World.
